All is not good at 10 Downing St. The already wobbly Conservative government of Britain’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak faced 2 major blows as the party lost its major stronghold forts to the opposition Labour Party in by-elections. This comes when the country is already facing a financial meltdown, something that the opposition never fails to credit Sunak for and a heavy backlash for his ‘Green Policies’ U-turn where Sunak pushed the deadline to phase out fuel-based vehicles from the country. What now seems like a domino effect of one wrong decision after another, Sunak has been losing his popularity, both outside as well as inside his party with former PMs like Boris Johnson criticising his decisions. The general elections, which are supposed to be held in the latter half of this year have already started signalling trends where Sunak’s Tories are trailing the opposition in the opinion polls. But this is not the end, the party seems to have found a narrative where even the opposition can’t blame them. The British Government has now accused China of compromising the UK Electoral Commission via hacking. An investigation by the National Cyber Security Centre has found China guilty of stealing personal data belonging to millions of voters between 2021-22. While the government has gone out all guns blazing with these reports and garnered international support as well (read USA), things still haven’t changed a lot for the Conservatives. If Sunak really wants to keep a hold on his power, he first needs to get his house in order
